FireSide Bar and Grill Westland

Hi there! and welcome to our first post on our culinary adventures around western Wayne County, Michigan. Our family loves experimenting and finding new restaurants to try out - and since I am from the South (born in New Mexico and raised in Texas) we are always on the lookout for some great Mexican or southern cooking as well! We aren't professionals so you won't get any houghty-toughty terms or too-crazy-to-eat combinations but we do know good food.

Last night we tried the new Fireside Grill on south Wayne Road in Westland. It was the first night they were open again and due to a power outage they had a limited menu - but what they had was great! (They do serve brick oven pizza but we didn't try it)

We started off with their Pulled Pork Nachos - the chips were fresh and there was plenty of flavor with the pork, roasted corn, jalapenos, and fresh pico de gallo. Served with sour cream it was a great tide-me-through until we got our next course. Rachel ordered a house salad with Ranch dressing. A bit about Rachel - she is known as the condiment Queen. She'd rather have condiments than the entree half the time - so she knows her dressings. She gave the Ranch a "thumbs up." That's a good thing ya'll! I had the French Onion soup - a favorite of mine! It was flavorful and served in a cute crock.

For her main, Rachel ordered the Alpine Chicken served with a sauce with spinach and mushrooms (I think). It was great! The chicken was juicy not dry and the sauce was really amazing. It was served with brussels sprouts and potatoes and she loved the sprouts as well!

If you were paying attention earlier, you caught that I'm from the South - so I had to try the Shrimp and Grits - and holy moly it was delicious! Instead of there being a soupy grit mess under the shrimp, the chef had created almost a fritter with them. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the remoulade sauce was to die for!

Even though we were too full to even finish our entrees, they were giving out free desserts in honor of their opening and it was a lovely surprise! It was a Peach and Oatmeal bake that was similar in flavor to a cobbler - very yummy! Especially when you added a piece of the strawberry to it! I hope it's on the menu to stay!
